Sever Hypomagnesemia :
0.5 - 2 Meq/Kg/day in divided doses or 5 gm ( 40 Meq ) + 500 ml D5W / 3 hr
Compatable diluents :
D5W , NS
Dilution:
1 gm / 60 ml / 30 minuts
Max. Rate 1 gm / 7 minuts
Incompatable Drugs ( due to Precipitate formation ) :
1. Alkali carbonates and bicarbonates
2. Calcium
3. Clindamycin phosphate
4. Tartrates
5. Phosphates
6. succinate
7. Heavy Metals
It has been reported that magnesium may reduce the antibiotic activity of streptomycin, tetracycline and tobramycin when given together.
